Womb required - Must have 30 years of female intuition and a make-up bag

I'm so sorry if that sounded sexist.

Fact is, there are people who want women in roles even if they're not best suited for the job.

Janet Street Porter on Question Time didn't fall short of saying that she wanted companies to be made to have a female quota in their boardrooms.

But what about the poor souls who are brushed aside so these women can take up these roles?  It's all very well and fair and good if the women in question are the absolute best people for the job.  But what if they're not?  What if they're there purely because of some quota target being met?

If a man is set aside in his search for a job or promotion simply because he's a man it is sexual discrimination, pure and simple.

Isn't that illegal?

It really does seem that some of these feminists (my husband calls them 'feminazis' which is a term I can't agree with, but I can see where he's coming from) don't want to settle for equality.  It does seem that they want women to be able to get on better in life than men do simply because they're women, ie, in the board room because they have more womb than balls.

But is that really equality?  I mean, being there just because she's a woman isn't going to make it so that she's there because she's the better choice otherwise, does it?  The worst of it is, if women are placed in board rooms purely because they are women, then those women who are in board rooms because they deserve to be there are going to be tarred with the same brush that says, "You're only here because you're a woman and the Company has to comply with quota targets".  Not sure that's going to do anything for equality, really.

Whoever's in the board room should be there because they've earned it.  They shouldn't be there at the expense of someone who was perhaps more deserving of it.

There's no denying that there should be equality - equal opportunties and equal pay.  But equality doesn't mean a leg up or a push down because of gender.

Gender balance is another name for sexual discrimination and really isn't the solution for those looking for real gender equality.
