Working His Ticket

My brother once bought a handful of concert tickets for himself and his friends who said they would like to go.  A little bit further down the line, my brother having paid for them, two of his friends said they couldn't make it.  Naturally, he was a bit miffed because of the expense, but they were mates and he didn't ask them for the money because they weren't going to get the benefit of going.  That left him with two tickets that he couldn't use.

So, I sold them for him on ebay.  I put them on at face value, but on bid, thinking that maybe that'll help me cover my listing fees, final value fees, and that little bit extra that Paypal take off when a seller receives payment via them.  However, what actually happened was the tickets sold for quite a bit more than we'd hoped and my brother received the proceeds of the sale, minus my expenses.  Fair enough.  It was a one-off and we weren't about to set up in business ordering tickets from ticket companies before they're released and selling them on to people even before we had the tickets in our hands.

But that's what some people are doing.  One of the sellers actually said that he would email the buyer as soon as he received the tickets from the ticket company.  It begs the question of how many he'd ordered from the ticket companies.  And how many of these people are ordering masses of tickets from ticket companies only to load them on to ebay when the venue has sold out, creating a demand and making a massive profit.

Mind, not sure that people would be so in the grip of the bidding frenzy that they'd pay £10,000,000 for a ticket:

It would seem that some people are fighting back.  One of the sellers had to remove a mass of his listings because people had placed bids on them for £25,000 or £10,000,000 or £5,000 - obviously with no intention of paying them.

The sooner ticket sales via these touts are forcibly removed the better.

It wouldn't be so bad if they sold them at face value - but then, if they had to do that they'd not bother and so many more of us would be able to get the tickets from the ticket companies before they sell out.

Now, if only someone could tackle the booking fees charged by the ticket companies .....
